Prepared by Boffo Marketing

Businesses Analyzed

61/100

Avg. Performance

59%

Too Slow to Use

95

Great Reviews, Weak Sites

Key Findings

Across 318 businesses, we identified patterns that affect how customers find, trust, and choose local service providers.

59%

Critical

6 out of 10 sites are too slow to be useful

59% of business websites take more than 5 seconds to become usable. The average speed index across all 275 sites with measurable data is 6,392 milliseconds — more than twice what Google considers acceptable. When a potential customer searches "plumber near me" or "HVAC repair Killeen" and taps through to a site that takes 6+ seconds to load, most of them leave before it finishes.

Common culprits: Oversized images, outdated WordPress plugins, page builders that load unnecessary code, and cheap shared hosting. Plumbers are hit hardest — 72% of plumber sites load too slowly.

49%

High

Nearly half of all sites score below passing

Of the 274 sites where we could run a full performance audit, 135 scored below 60 out of 100 — what Google considers a failing grade. The community average is 61, barely above the threshold. Med spas perform worst at an average of 54, while law firms lead at 69 — but even that's well below the "good" benchmark of 90.

What this means: For every 10 local businesses a customer visits online, roughly 5 of them deliver a frustrating experience that makes the business look less professional than it actually is.

11%

Medium

1 in 9 businesses have no website at all

35 of the 318 businesses we analyzed have no website listed on their Google Business Profile. These businesses are invisible to anyone who searches online — they're relying entirely on Google Maps, word of mouth, or social media. In 2026, a business without a website is a business that doesn't exist to a large portion of potential customers.

What they're missing: When someone searches "plumber near me" or "med spa Killeen," Google favors businesses with websites. No website means fewer calls, fewer bookings, and lost revenue to competitors who do show up.

95

Opportunity

95 businesses have great reputations but weak websites

This is the most striking finding. 95 of the 318 businesses we analyzed have strong Google reviews — 4.5+ stars with 30 or more reviews — but website performance scores below 60. Their customers love them. Their websites don't reflect it. That's nearly 1 in 3 businesses where the online first impression undersells the actual quality of the work.

The opportunity: These are businesses with proven customer satisfaction whose online presence undersells their actual quality. A website refresh for these businesses isn't cosmetic — it's closing the gap between their reputation and their first impression.

The Opportunity in Your Community

The businesses in Temple, Killeen, and Waco aren't struggling because of bad reviews or poor service — the data shows the opposite. Many of these businesses have excellent reputations. What they lack is a web presence that reflects it.

When a potential customer searches for a local service, they make a snap judgment based on the website they land on. If that site is slow, hard to navigate, or looks like it was built in 2012, they move on — even if the business behind it is outstanding.

This is a solvable problem. These businesses don't need a $10,000 custom website. They need a clean, professional web presence that matches the quality of work they already deliver.
